The department supports research and development for vegetable crops important to the state's economy and those identified under the National Primary Industries Research Development and Extension Framework. The gross value of vegetable commodities produced in 2008-09 was $895 million.
Queensland commodities

- Brassicas (including broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprout and radish)
- Capsicum and chilli
- Cucurbits (including pumpkin, cucumber and zucchini)

- Melons (including watermelon, rockmelon and honeydew)
- Onions
- Potatoes
- Sweet corn
- Sweetpotato
- Tomatoes
