Collared carpetshark

The collared carpetshark has rounded pectoral fins, the dorsal fin is set back behind the pelvic fins and the tail fin has a subterminal notch but lacks a lower lobe

Distribution of the collared carpetshark.

The snout of the collared carpetshark has short nasal barebels. The mouth is well in front of the eyes and connected to the nostrils by nasoral grooves

Collared carpetsharks (Parascylliidae)

Description
  • small (up to 86 cm) slender carpetshark
  • yellow-brown above and pale below
  • conspicuous broad, dark collar over the gills
  • dusky saddles and large dark spots on the body and fins.
  • distinguished from catsharks in having the mouth well in front of the eyes and with nasoral grooves connecting the mouth and nostrils.
Distribution

Demersal in coastal waters south of Mooloolaba.

Fisheries

May interact with trawl and net fisheries.
