Registration requirements
Your property must be registered with Biosecurity Queensland if you keep one or more head of horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, buffalo, deer or camelids (camels, llama, alpaca), or 100 or more poultry including caged birds. Places that must be registered include:
- farms and holdings
- saleyards
- cattle tick and transit centres
- agricultural show and sporting event grounds
- feedlots
- town and local government common areas
- stock routes
- pounds
- animal parks
- theme parks and zoos
- live exporters
- abattoirs and slaughterhouses.
To apply for property registration, you will be required to supply lot on plan (found on the rates notice) and contact details. In some instances, Biosecurity Queensland will contact you for further evidence of your ownership of the property. Evidence of ownership may be a copy of a:
- contract of sale
- rates notice
- lease agreement.
Once registered, the property is issued with a property identification code (PIC). A PIC is necessary to purchase National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) devices.
As a PIC owner, you are required to notify Biosecurity Queensland of:
- changes to your property details or contact information
- the purchase or acquisition of a property on which livestock will be kept within 14 days.
Processing times
You can register and make changes either online or at a Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) customer service office. If you are lodging an online application for a place where a PIC has never been allocated, you will receive notification of your PIC by email or mail within approximately five working days.
If you are updating PIC details online or lodging an online application for a place that has a PIC allocated, the application will be forwarded to your local DAFF office for processing.

Biosecurity Queensland will contact you if they require any clarification and send you written confirmation of your registration.
Register a property
Online
To register your property online, click the appropriate link below and follow the prompts.
In person
To register your property at your local DAFF office, download and complete the 'Property information' form and the 'Client information' form. You must submit the completed forms, together with your evidence of ownership.
Update PIC information
If you already have a PIC and need to change your contact information or property records, either download and complete a property information form or client information form and submit it to any DAFF office, or make your changes online (you will need to provide your PIC and password).

Transfer ownership
As a new owner, you are responsible for advising Biosecurity Queensland of a change to ownership within 14 days of the purchase or acquisition. Complete the 'Transfer registered property APS' form and submit it to your local DAFF office with evidence of ownership.
Deregister a property
A property owner may deregister a property when livestock are no longer held on the property.
To deregister a registered property, complete the 'Deregister a registered property' form and submit it to your local DAFF office. Before approving deregistration, an inspector may request further information to confirm that the place no longer keeps or intends to keep livestock.
